being able to see a doctor when you’re sick is quite a priviledge in my country. Not everyone has the resource to pay the huge bill to receive a few minutes of examination. What i don’t understand is, why do we have to wait hours just to see them? Yes yes, there’s so many sick people out there, there are too few doctors to handle them. But still, are their management skill so poor that they can’t look for, design & implement some system to make the waiting time shorter? Or if they are too preoccupied with their expertise, can’t they hire someone competent enough to do it for them?
It’s so bloody easy really:
- determine how much time approximately needed for each consultation
- ask each of the patient to make an appointment first. Ask them to be prompt or they have to wait for next available time.
- Of course nobody can’t predict when and if one’s going to be sick. So, if the patient’s already sick, they can simply be given time when they’re going to see the doctor, how long they’re going to have to wait, and if they can’t/don’t want to, send them to somebody else.
And the doctor can rest between each appointment so each and every patient could get their best attention & suggestions.
I used to go to my mum’s internist and it’s horrible to see those sick patients waiting patiently (maybe that’s where the word patients come from: patience. Hey, i don’t think that refers to patiently waiting to see the doctor!!!!) for hours in not so comfortable waiting room. I mean, they have suffered strokes and some of them are old fer cryn’ out loud!!!! And what did the doctor do? Poke here, poke there, said ‘you’re all fine’, give some resep dokter, tell us when to come back, take our money and ..... NEXT COW PLEASE!!!!
And most of them never tell us what and why are they going to do us. I think every patients are entitled to know because it’s our body they’re going to mess with. Ohkaayyy.... waaayyyy back then, when most of the people are illiterate and don’t have any access to information, it will be hard to explain to them. But now.... helloooo....... ever heard of internet before? Health Books? Health Magazines? Surely most people could understand what they are talking about. I seriously think that they have to give a communication course in every med school here.
Please doc, treat your patients decently, not like some stupid objects.
